Mark Your Calendar for TUARA’s Annual Spring Luncheon on April 27
University of Alabama President Stuart Bell will host TUARA’s spring luncheon at the Capstone Hotel at 11 a.m., Wednesday, April 27. Dr. Bell will provide an update on news and activities at the University. TUARA’s annual business meeting, awards presentations, and election of officers and executive board members will follow the luncheon. After the cancellation of the luncheon due to Covid in 2020 and a virtual meeting last year, we are looking forward to returning to this important annual event in person this spring. Save the date and watch for more details to come!
Vote in TRS Board of Control Election
All education retirees should have received a ballot in the mail from the Teachers Retirement System asking you to vote for a candidate to represent retired educators on the TRS board of control. Please participate by returning the postage-paid postcard or by voting online per the instructions on the ballot. This is an important position for retirees, and a large response is another way that we can show our elected officials that retirees are active and paying attention to what is going on in Montgomery with our pensions and healthcare. Ballots must be received by April 15. More information about the TRS Board of Control is available at https://www.rsa-al.gov/trs/board-of-control/.
AERA Annual Meeting on April 19
The Alabama Education Retirees Association annual meeting will be Tuesday, April 19 at the Renaissance Montgomery Hotel and Spa in Montgomery. If you are interested in attending the meeting as a TUARA delegate, please contact Cathy Andreen at candreen8185@yahoo.com by April 1. Delegates must be members of AERA in addition to TUARA.
Report Your Volunteer Hours Today
Help us demonstrate retirees’ contributions to our communities by reporting your volunteer hours for January-March 2022 today. Use the attached form to report your hours. Service hours should include activities in Alabama for which you have not received financial reimbursement. Hours should also not include 1) Sunday school and church attendance, 2) Caring for family members, and 3) Participation in AERA activities on state committees or the Board of Directors. What’s the easiest way to report? Simply look at the categories on the form, list your volunteer hours by category in the body of an email and send the email to tuara.ua@gmail.com. Each year our investment of time in our communities makes a significant contribution to Alabama. When our data is added to similar data from other education retirees around the state through AERA, we demonstrate the value that retirees bring to Alabama’s economy and quality of life. And that tremendous impact supports efforts to build support for retiree issues and benefits. Please report your hours to TUARA today!
